I have not had any problems with my HELOC.  My Son on the other hand had a lot of problems with his in Florida.  The judge he went before for his bankrupcy I think feels that B of A has been very unfair with its clients and wiped out his $40,000 HELOC.

How debts in collections affect your credit

It is almost impossible to fix a collection on your report.  I am 100% service-connected disabled and if I need medical help outside the VA then VA Fee Basis pays for it.  I have a collection from Coastal Radiology in collection.  I called VA Fee Basis to find out why.  They said that all bills submitted for those days in the hospital were paid.  Coastal Radiology did not send a bill.  As a favor to me VA Fee Basis called Coastal Radiology and told them to send them a bill.  Coastal Radiology refuses because they will only get about $150.  They want me to pay $430.  I called and wrote Transunion about this and put in a dispute.  They declined saying I owed it.  Transunion did not even call Fee Basis to check.  It is a scam to keep your credit score as low as possible.  Do they credit score companies get a kickback from banks etc?

I know on what day my credit card companies post to the credit reporting agencies and I pay them off in full every month at least 3 days before the posting date so I show a low utilization.

Good credit score to buy car with low interest rate?

Buying a car

The best thing is if the car company is financing with a rate as low as or lower than the bank.  If they won't give you the best rate, thank them and start walking toward the exit.  I bet you won't get out the door without them finding you the rate you want.  By the way, car dealerships don't care about the profit on the car as much as they want to make you happy enough so that you you them for service.  That is were the money is.

Can't get above 800

Very difficult to do.  Take keoke779's advice, but don't overdo it.  Just bragging, but at one time B of A had me at 849.  I complained that the just didn't want me to hit 850.  Believe me, it has slid since then.

If the card does not charge an anual fee, do not close it.  That can lower your score.  Use the card for small amounts and pay it off on schedule.

Try to get at least one credit card.  Capitol One is usually easy to get.  Charge something every month and pay the bill as soon as it comes in.  If you charge near the max, but do it only if you can pay it in full, they will up your limit every 3-6 months.  Slow and steady wins the race.

CU is only part of your score.  My score is 749 with a CU of 62% but an on time record that is perfect and no collection notices plus some cards I have had over 10 years.  I did have an collection on mine that was in error, but once that was fixed my score went from the high 600;s to what it is now.  Call all you credit card companies and ask them what day of the month they report on.  Make sure your payment for each is in a couple of days before that.  Remember if you spend $2000 on a credit card and the next month another $2000 before the payment date of the previous month they will say you owe $4000.
