2% to 4% categories apply for the first $8,000 in those categories per year. For instance, you can spend up to $8,000 per year combined for the 2%, 3%,and 4% categories. After that, its 1%. Year starts when you apply until your anniversary date, and then the $8,000 resets. Plus they have deals (10% off at Chili's, 10% off at Petco, etc.) that you have to activate. So if you take advantage of the 10% off at Chili's deal, you get 10% off plus you still get the 3% off for dining. And 4% gas is hard to beat. Need to accumulate $25 in rewards in order to redeem but the $ you get with deals count towards the $25. Deal $ are paid the following month. All in all, pretty sweet.

One thing to note. Not ALL items under the category "Entertainment" qualifies for 4%. Golf is under entertainment, but does not qualify. The businesses listed on the ad are basically the only ones qualified for 4%

Great card, hassle free

If you use it a lot and always pay on time, they will treat you well. I converted my Thank You rewards card to this card about 2 years ago. My CL is 40k, but I've had Citi cards for 20 years. Since I spend about 2K a month, I get great customer service, never a hassle to use it, and a couple of times my account was compromised and they got me a replacement card within 24 hours. A 2% flat rewards is pretty good. You need at least $25 in rewards to redeem, but I usually get about $40 a month in rewards each month, so it's not a hassle.

Deals Are Wonderful

Keep an eye on the Amex offers/deals. They can be fantastic. Got $20 off my cable bills by using the card to pay the cable bill. Got 10% off at Macy's, 10 additional % off groceries, etc. Its very hard to pull a different card when these deals apply. It's like getting an instant 10% off for paying with Amex.

Same here. Credit score is 842, CL on 3 of my cards is 30k, 35k, and 40k. I have high interest rates over 20% too, but I don't care since I don't carry balances. It's the way rewards cards roll.

Maybe what you aren't telling us is as you got your balance down to 8400, you ran up debt on other cards and your % utilization went way up. This could certainly trigger a credit line decrease.

How about using rewards cards for rewards, not for financing. Get a card good for financing if you need to do that. Better yet, get a personal loan for that. Using a rewards card for financing is like driving a bus back and forth to work, and saying it gets terrible gas mileage.

Yeah, sure they will. Had the card over 5 years and with the offers they have now included, the reward dollars are better than ever. So no, after 6 months they do not stop awarding dollars. Might want to check your statement and talk to customer service.

It's a bad card because you were late paying. If you are 6 hours late for your flight, do not fly that airline? 6 hours late for your exam, do not attend that university? 6 hours late for a date, do not date that girl? Maybe Amex should say, do not take environmental1 as a customer.

It's pretty simple. If you borrow money, you pay it back in a timely manner. If you don't, they won't lend you money. If you can't grasp that, let's try this. I want to borrow $100 from you, and I'll tell you upfront I'm not going to pay you back, because my history shows I don't pay people back generally. Now why won't you lend me the 100? Buyer beware, stay away from anonymous!

They upgraded their rewards program. First they added coins and made it easier to track rewards. Within the last week, they now have flexible 3% categories (gas, online, restaurants, travel, etc) that can be changed at the beginning of each month. I use the card more and more now.
