Is the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card worth it?

The Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card offers a straightforward 2% cash back on all purchases along with a $0 annual fee and a strong sign-up bonus. This combination makes it an excellent option for people who prefer simplicity and want a single card for all purchases without worrying about bonus categories.

If you value no-hassle rewards and a high cash back rate, this card could be a great fit for you.

Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card at a glance

Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card best benefits and features

Strong sign-up bonus

You can earn a $200 sign-up bonus after spending $500 on eligible purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. This is a good sign-up bonus for a $0annual fee cash back card, particularly because of the low spending threshold to earn it.

Intro APR on purchases and balance transfers

The Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card offers a 0% introductory APR for 12 months from account opening on purchases and balance transfers. After the intro period ends, the ongoing APR for both purchases and balance transfers is a variable 18.99%, 23.99%, 28.99%.

Take note that balance transfers must be requested within 120 days of account opening, and you’ll pay a balance transfer fee: 3% for 120 days from account opening, then up to 5% (minimum $5).

This feature can be helpful if you have a large purchase you want to pay off over time without accruing interest, or if you want to transfer an existing balance from a higher-interest card to consolidate credit card debt

But the intro period for this card is shorter than what some other cards offer, so if you transfer a balance or make a large purchase with this card, be prepared to pay it off before you’re hit with interest.

Cellphone protection

If you use your card to pay your cellphone bill, you can get protection from damage and theft not covered by other insurance, after paying a $25 deductible. This provides a valuable safety net for a device that can be expensive to repair or replace.

What are the drawbacks of the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card?

No bonus reward categories

Unlike other popular cash back credit cards, the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card doesn’t offer additional categories for bonus rewards. So if you spend heavily in specific categories like dining or groceries, you might want to consider looking for a different card that has higher rewards rates on your most-frequent purchases.

Foreign transaction fee

If you want to take your card abroad to make purchases, keep in mind that you’ll pay a 3% foreign transaction fee on those transactions.

How to redeem your cash rewards

Another benefit of the Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card is that you have flexible options to redeem the rewards you earn:

This flexibility allows for straightforward and practical use of rewards.

Cash bonus and cash back

Credit Karma Member

I got this card for the bonus. I started using it like a debit card to make all my monthly purchases and have been paying it off as I go. This month I earned over $50! I’m making it work for me. I just make sure there’s no balance due so I’ve never been charged interest.

This card is a joke! I have excellent credit score and only approved me for 2,000. I wanted to use this card for a Balance transfer. Don’t waste your time!

*Approval Odds are not a guarantee of approval. Credit Karma determines Approval Odds by comparing your credit profile to other Credit Karma members who were approved for the card shown, or whether you meet certain criteria determined by the lender. Of course, there’s no such thing as a sure thing, but knowing your Approval Odds may help you narrow down your choices. For example, you may not be approved because you don’t meet the lender’s “ability to pay standard” after they verify your income and employment; or, you already have the maximum number of accounts with that specific lender.
