With the FACT Act, US consumers are entitled to one free credit report once per year from each of the credit bureaus (Equifax, TransUnion, Experian). Consumers can access this information via AnnualCreditReport.com. While this government site is a great resource, it does have some limitations. First, the site does not provide a credit score. Credit scores are important because they provide a standardized interpretation of all the information on a credit report. Second, the access is only good once per year for each of the bureaus. Most credit reports and scores change every 30 days, so this information can quickly grow stale. Last, there are no resources to help you understand the information on your credit report. Credit reports contain years of credit information on all of your credit accounts, so understanding all of the information can be a daunting chore.
That‘s the reason Credit Karma provides the credit report card. Credit Karma tries to address all three shortcomings with this tool.
