How should i handle an unknown open collection account reporting weekly on my credit report?
I recently discovered an account sent for collections on my Equifax credit report. The account was opened in November 2010, and the balance is about 500 dollars. I have an idea its an unpaid bill from when i was 18 years old, but am uncertain as this agency has never contacted me. I simply found this on my report. Should i attempt to contact this creditor with a Pay For Delete letter? Or disregard this account as others have suggested?
(This account doesn't seem to have affected me through other lenders thus far, as i have recently received a capital one card with a 3000 limit and have 2 other accounts in good standing, opened about a year ago.)
