if you don't agree that this is in fact your accnt I would suggest that you dispute this with the company by sending a debt validation letter via usps certified mail, debt validation letter is where you (the consumer) has the right to question your debt that is reported to the credit bureaus, also if a collector attempts to collect a debt via phone you then request that they do not call you until they have your supposed debt obligation in writing, the collector then has 5 days to respond to your request and send any information regarding the debt they claim you owe.. when and if you do recieve that letter of the debt you owe you can then send a debt validation letter for the collector to provide valid information as to how the debt is yours. proof that you had a signed contract/agreement to the debt they claim you owe. always keep in mind that when you send a debt validation letter or any letters to the collector on your behalf always ALWAYS send it via certified mail!!! that way you can track where your mail is going and when it was recieved. once the collector recieves your letter you can start your 30 day countdown (it takes a collector 30 days to validate your debt they say you owe) if they (the collector) does not respond in the timely fashion (30days) you (the consumer) has the right to dispute the item off your credit report with the credit bureaus. however if you have a collector harrassing you of some debt without reporting your debt to the credit bureau you should still request for validation of debt. mind you in the 30day period the collector CAN NOT!!! MAKE ANY SUCH PHONE CALLS TO YOU REGARDING SETTLEMENT OF THE DEBT IF THEY DO SO YOU TELL THEM THEY ARE NOT SUPPOSED TO CONTACT YOU VIA PHONE ALL CONTACT MUST BE MADE IN WRITING! that more then likely tells the collector WOW THIS CONSUMER IS SERIOUS, that might just scare them into removing the debt off your report. I did this and all 5 of the negative old collections had been removed I am now 4 thousand + relieved from debts.
