how can i remove a company that's been on my credit fof at least seven years?

Generally you don't, unless it is not a company you have had any business with.  Wrong information can be disputed, as is explained in the articles on this site.  Otherwise, you have to wait for 7.5 years mark for the accounts to fall off, though, if your payment history with that company is excellent, the account could shoiw for ten years, to your benefit.

if the account is over 7 years old, you can file a dispute with all three credit bureaus requesting that they be removed.   If it was a positive reporting, good payments and paid off, let it be.  Its not contributing to your current score and can be a good reference for some creditors (Like mortgage companies)
