Without knowing your particular issue with regard to credit it's impossible to say exactly. But in general, if you are using more than 30% of your available revolving credit (for instance, carrying a $333 dollar balance on a credit card with a $1000 limit), pay down as much of that as you can to get it under 30%. If you are able to take out another card with a higher limit (that you won't carry a balance on) do so.  That will help utilization.

Make sure all payments are on time, preferably making your monthly payments before the creditor cuts the statement each month, and if you have any outstanding collections, work on getting those taken care of. I'd head to creditboards dot com for more detailed advice.
