With the New VantageScore 3.0 from CK from TransUnion and Equifax it seems that these scores are very much closer to the FICO scores. ( and it depends on the user ) I'm posting the History of the Highest score for each of the months and will keep a running total here for other to see. CITI Bank has also started to Supply a FICO Score from Equifax and will be posting that here also.

How to Build Your Credit from Scratch

Jun 02, 2014
Helpful to 78 out of 114 people

The Credit Bureaus have caught on to folks being added as a "authorized user" on someone else account.

Few weeks back purchased my FICO Scores from myFICO.com  to see what my FICO Scores were.  Was hopping for higher scores but happy where they are at.

759 – Experian
756 – Equifax

763 – TransUnion

While reading the reports noticed that the TransUnion report showed my Oldest Account was 20 years and 6 months as I expected, but the other 2 did not report the same thing.  Equifax had 9 Years, 1 month and Experian had 3 year, 9 months for Oldest account.  I was like how can this be, someone screwed up somewhere.

Average age of accounts was off also

1 year  for Experian

2 years for Equifax

3 years for TransUnion,

Thinking something is not adding up here so send e-mail off to myFICO.com and that went nowhere real quick.  So it was time to call myFICO up and find out what is happening.  Made it thru the menus and Martin was on the other end.  Verified all my info and then started in with my question as to the Oldest account.  Come to find out that when you get your FICO Score from myFICO.com they DO NOT USE the same FICO Model on the 3 Credit Bureaus information.

FICO Model used

  FICO-8 for Experian & Equifax

  FICO-98 for TransUnion

Seems the FICO-8 will not average in “Authorized User” Accounts for Average Age of Accounts or for the Oldest Account.  ( not sure what else )  It seems to get it averaged or show up as the Oldest account they look at Joint Accounts and  accounts you are Primary on only.  Seems that “Authorized user” account somehow tossed to the side. ( I could be wrong, but don’t think so )

Looks  like my wife’s account that is 20 years plus where I’m an authorized user will be changing to Joint Account to get the history.

Martin at myFICO.com said TransUnion will be moving to the FICO-8 Score, but could not give a date just said it would happen soon,  How Soon is Soon?  1 month, 6 months, 1 year?  Who knows.

So the days of being added as an Authorized User to someone’s account are already number.   For the account to count in your credit score you need to be the Primary person (Individual Account)  or it needs to be a setup as a Joint Account to get the boost for the Average Age of Accounts,  Oldest Account and would guess Payment History Also.

What Is in a Credit Score?

Apr 22, 2014
Helpful to 66 out of 75 people

Here is a better way to think of the different Credit Score.

Just as different Gas stations have different types of Grades of Gas and Blends  the Credit bureaus have Different Credit Scores.

So we have ExxonMobil, Chevron and Phillips 66   they each have Grades of gas and they each put something different into it so they say to make your car run better.

Well TransUnion, Experian and Equifax have different Credit Scores  each Credit Score is like a different blend of gas.  They also have the FICO Score but that is not given out to the public from each of their sites.  If you want you FICO Score you have to get it from www.myFICO.com and pay to get it.  or have one of the Credit Cards like the Discover IT card that will give it to you each month from one of the Credit Bureaus.

There is also the Vantage Credit Score that should be close to your FICO score ( or so they say ) but that is hard to compare.  CreditKarma is using a OLD Out Dated Vantage Score that is more less useless to us.

So the Credit Scores your see here take with a grain of salt.  Same thing for the scores you get from TransUnion,  Experian and Equifax take those with a gain of salt.  These are not FICO scores.

Again the only way to get your FICO Score is to Pay for it at  www.myFICO.com   or by one of the Credit Cards that supply one of the Credit Bureaus FICO scores on your statement.

Hope this helps out.

You are trying to compare 2 different types of Credit Scores.

CK's TransUnion Score is a "New Account Score"
 and

myFICO is giving you your "FICO Score"

Thats like tryin to compare 2 Dodge Cars, one being a Dart and the other a Viper.

you need to compare like to like,  verify the the Score Model being used.

credit card utilization.

if you pay off your cc account before your statement due date then a balance of 0 is reported to the credit bureaus.  If someone were to look at your credit report it may seem to them you never use your cc. ( yes you know differently )   Also the credit bureaus show you with a 0 utilized for that account.  It is good you pay it off before the statement but the credit bureaus do not see the history of payments.   It is good to have something show up on your cc account statement.  I always leave some balance on the CC so it is reported to the credit bureaus,  shows that the card is active and in use.  I also make payments to my high usage credit cards every other week when I get paid.

Hope this helps,  too early today,  need some coffee.

Is it better to pay off a credit card every month or make payments toward the balance every month?

My one and only credit card account and my mortgage do not show

Mar 02, 2013
Helpful to 18 out of 20 people

Then your Mortgage company only reports to Experian,  it cost the mortage companies every time they report to one of the credit bureaurs.   The information you see here at Credit Karma is from TransUnion only

As for your Credit Card not showing on the credit reports, guessing here but if it is not a major CC from a large Department store or back then they it might not report to any of the Credit Bureaus.

Was thinking I was smart by opening a Seventh Ave Account last year,  only to find out afterwards they never report payment history,  they only report if you are late or miss payments.  Does no good for anyone.

Credit History takes time so does your Credit Score.

How many points does a hard inquiry take from your credit score?

Mar 08, 2013
Helpful to 7 out of 7 people

There is no set number that a Hard inquire will take from your credit score,

The 14th Hard inquire for me took 1 point the day of the inquire.

But have been dripping Hard inquires this year,   today just say #9 fall off and gained 3 points.

Your mileage may vary.

Credit History takes time so does your Credit Score.

how do i get my credit score..I already have gotten Experian and now want Equifax

The only Credit Score that really counts is your FICO score.    That can be purched at  www.MyFico.com,   now if you are lucky you might have a Credit Card that gives you one of your FICO scores.   If it does not say FICO then think of it as a FAKE Credit Score that is a guide were your credit is going.

What Is VantageScore 3.0?

Jan 27, 2015
Helpful to 6 out of 6 people

From TransUnion Website

"TransUnion New Account Score  ( This is what CreditKarma supplied us )
The TransUnion New Account Score, designed with advanced characteristic evaluation and scorecard segmentation, assesses new prospects’ and applicants’ risk level. This model enables institutions to better identify new or prospective applicants who are most likely to become 90 or more days delinquent within a 24-month timeframe"

"VantageScore®

Developed by the three credit bureaus, TransUnion, Equifax and Experian, VantageScore uses credit data and characteristic leveling to identify consumers likely to become 90 or more days delinquent within a 24-month period. The generic score provides more consistency in credit decisions by applying the same attributes to different sets of data; it simplifies credit decisioning with a single policy that can be used across credit reporting companies."

Old Navy Credit Card

Apr 15, 2014
Helpful to 6 out of 6 people

you buy gift cards and check out without signing anything.   When you sign up for a Credit Card,  you are supplied lots of information,  and have to sign on the dotted line.  It is not Old Navy's fault your debit card is messed up,  you need to take that up with your bank.   you have over 3 weeks to make a payment from the time you get your statement.

Don't blame anyone but yourself.
