Heart attack, but approved for $2500!
Helpful to 33 out of 34 people

I searched reviews endlessly to guage my approval odds. I spent hours (really!) googling things like, "Chase Freedom Unlimited with limited history".

Here's my situation: I have only about 9 months of total credit history. I got a car loan about 9 months ago, my first credit card a couple months after that, and my second credit card only about a month ago. Despite the short history, I have a good credit score: TU 726 EQ 723 and according to Discover, a 725 Fico. I also happen to have 6 hard inquiries (I know-terrible)

I was recently denied the BofA Cash card, so I don't know why I had the nerve to apply for this one. But I did. After I finally hit the submit button on my application, it seemed like it was taking FOREVER to "Verify my Information". Silly as it may sound, my heart was pounding as I was thinking I had just wasted another hard inquiry. But I was approved instantly! And the limit was $2500!

I really hope my info here helps someone make the decision. I know how frustrating it can be not knowing if you're about to waste a hard pull or not. As always, YMMV, but still. It helps to see the financial stats of other successful applicants!

Surprising result

I just applied for this somewhat spur-of-the-moment. I do like GM cars, and the idea that any money I spend on this card goes toward one is great! Saving without even having to think about it! Anyway, I had actually just CLOSED my Quicksilver, and also had recently gotten a Barclaycard. My scores are somewhere around 730. After applying, I got the dreaded “pending further review” status. Naturally I assumed that meant no. I was blaming my recent hard inquiries. But I thought I would call the reconsideration line anyway. I was trying to decide whether I would even keep the card if I were somehow approved. I figured that, if I DID get approved, it would be the measly $300 or $500 limits that are apparently so common with this card. The customer service lady was very polite and easy to understand, and she asked me a few ID verification questions. Once I answered all of those, she told me I was approved for $5000! I was somewhere close to shocked. I always hear that Cap1, and the GM card in particular, is stingy with limits.  They certainly had been with my QS. This still isn’t my highest-limit card, but so much higher than I was expecting. Another interesting note: as of yet, I haven’t received a hard inquiry. I have to assume that one will hit me eventually, but usually I get a credit alert immediately from various credit sites. Maybe the pending verification and the fact that I was already a Cap1 customer in the past helped me out here? I would love to think I won’t get a hard pull at all, but we’ll see, I guess!

Simple to use card

It's a nice, simple card for people that use Amazon a lot. I've had no issues with it at all. Just pay your balance in full or at least don't take the full length of time to pay it off. It's nice that you will get automatically upgraded to the Prime card if you decide to get Prime.

Update: the hard inquiry finally showed up. Just Equifax, on which I had no other inquiries.

I forgot-- for what it's worth, my CK approval odds were "Good" and the BofA I was denied for had odds of "Fair". So for me, CK's predictions seem pretty decent.
Also, I misspelled gauge. -.-

Great for Apple fanatics such as myself

I was approved for $2000, but called after activating it and had the limit raised easily to $4000. The app works well and the customer service seems very friendly. Happy so far!
