We think it's important for you to understand how we make money. It's pretty simple, actually. The offers for financial products you see on our platform come from companies who pay us. The money we make helps us give you access to free credit scores and reports and helps us create our other great tools and educational materials.

Compensation may factor into how and where products appear on our platform (and in what order). But since we generally make money when you find an offer you like and get, we try to show you offers we think are a good match for you. That's why we provide features like your Approval Odds and savings estimates.

Of course, the offers on our platform don't represent all financial products out there, but our goal is to show you as many great options as we can.

Will I see big cash back rewards?

Not necessarily. The 1.5% cash back offer might not result in a big payout. But the unlimited cash back rewards, lack of annual fee and no foreign transaction fees make this an attractive option for international travelers.

The rundown: Everything we like about Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card

Here are some of the things we like about this card:

1.5 percent cash back

The Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card allows you to earn 1.5 percent cash back on every purchase.

When you spend $500 a month on the Quicksilver® card you’ll earn $90 cash back annually. Spend $1,000 a month and you’ll earn $180 annually. While it’s not that big a return, it’s still cash earned simply for making your regular purchases.

$150 sign-up bonus

Want to earn an additional $150? The new card member offer gives a one-time $150 cash bonus to card members who spend $500 on purchases within three months of opening the account.

No annual fee

As an added bonus, the card has no annual fee, so you don’t have to worry about handing a chunk of that money back over to Capital One.

Compare that to Capital One’s alternative card, the Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card. Although it’s available to applicants with lower credit ratings, it comes with an annual fee of $39.

No foreign transaction fees

Travel a lot? Card user Chris Matteson, a sales engineer from Santa Rosa, California, says the Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card might be the right card for you, since it has no foreign transaction fees.

Chris uses other rewards cards when purchasing groceries and gas at home, but he prefers this Quicksilver® credit card while overseas. “I travel abroad two to three times a year,” Chris says. “It’s nice to combine the simplicity of no foreign transaction fees with 1.5% cash back.”

Heads up: What you should consider before applying for the Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card

Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card isn’t for everyone. Here’s what you should know:

Excellent credit is necessary

According to Capital One, applicants must have “excellent credit” in order to qualify.

What is excellent credit? Capital One doesn’t list a specific score threshold for this card, but an infographic on Capital One’s website defines a person with excellent credit as having a FICO rating of 761 to 850; as having never declared bankruptcy or defaulted on a loan; as having never been more than 60 days late on any credit card, medical bill or loan in the last year; and has having a loan or credit card for three years or more with a credit limit above $5,000.

Checking your Approval Odds on Credit Karma for this card can help you determine if you are likely to be approved. If you have average credit, consider this card’s sister card, the Capital One® QuicksilverOne® Cash Rewards Credit Card.

High APR

The Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card comes with a 0 percent intro APR on purchases for the first nine months. While the introductory rate may be enticing, it’s important to see the bigger picture. After nine months the rate is variable, ranging from 13.99 to 23.99 percent.

Jennifer Keith, a college student from Sacramento, California, is a Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card user. Jennifer says the high variable rate isn’t a concern since she doesn’t often carry a balance on the card. But for those who typically carry a balance, it may not be worth the risk.

Not great for balance transfers

The Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card is also a poor option for balance transfers. While transferred balances will enjoy the nine month, 0 percent introductory APR, they’ll still cost you a 3% flat fee on each transfer amount within the first nine months. After the introductory period, the APR will be a variable rate of 13.99 to 23.99 percent. Balance transfers are prohibited between Capital One® accounts.

Do the math: How to get the most out of the Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card

Earning rewards with the Capital One® Quicksilver® Cash Rewards Credit Card is pretty straightforward. Every time you use the card, you’ll earn cash back. Plus there are no foreign transaction fees, so you’ll want to keep this card handy while abroad.
