Why is Discover Bank listed under "Oil Companies" in the Industry field?
Hey Guys,

I recently applied for a Discover credit card and I see that under the Hard Inquiries this has been recorded as an inquiry from Discover Bank (which is correct), but lists it as "Oil Companies" under the 'Industry' field which is weird. Is it like this from the credit report itself or is this a thing that CK displays?

There are three possible scenarios as to why Discover is listed as Oil Company on your hard inquiry.   First, at the bureau, it was miscoded as it was entered.  Perhaps they failed to clear the code from the previous one that was entered.  Second, the firm the Discover subcontracts to did likewise when they made the request.  if they represent multiple firms they did not update the code that gave them the classification.    The third was there was a computer error on the automated system that allowed the same thing to happen.  Fret not, it doesn't matter what type of an inquiry it was, it will not impact the decision the Discover will make or when it is finally on your credit report as an account.
