First, try disputing the items that are a result of the identity theft.  They will disappear after investigation which shouldn't take long.  Going bankrupt because of those is foolish.  It would be the same as admitting those were your charges.  Besides, bankruptcy hurts your credit very badly for 10 years and unpaid regular debts only do so for 7 years or less,depending on what the statute of limitations on collections is for your state. 

Also, be smart and keep you Social Security card safely locked up except for the rare times when it must actually be seen.
