You really need to do some reading. A Hard Inquiry is done when you apply for credit, this is the act of a lender pulling your credit report from a credit bureau to see what is listed on your credit reports and what your credit scores are. Hard Inquiries will cause slight damage to your credit, so you don't want to go crazy applying for credit. A Hard Inquiry will remain on your reports for 2 years. Soft Inquiries are used for things like preapprovals, they do not affect your credit.
