Mistaken collections
An account went to collections even though it was paid. The collections agency supposedly fixed the error but it's still listed on my score. How do I fix this?

Send the collector a certified letter with a proof that you paid this account and it should not have gone to collections.  Send them the statement from the original creditor, along with proof it has been paid, (i.e. copy of canceled check, print out of your bank statement showing the payment made).  Send a copy of that letter and proof to the credit bureaus as well as the collector.  I would also send it to the original creditor as well.  If they don't fix it, file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (on the web).
