If you have a bunch of open cards and a robust credit profile then it might be ok to cancel it, but if you have very limited accounts and are in the process of building credit, then do not close it.

My recommendation is to never close a credit card you have.   The more credit items in your report, the better.   Closing one could impact your age of accounts and utilzation.   Keep in mind that if you have a older card and never use it, the credit card company may close it on your for inactivity.   Thus, using it once a year is recommended.
