If I pay off the debt to the business will this take the collection off my credit report faster?
I owe small amount to hospital, instead of going through collection agency

With medical collections, try ask the original credtior if they can recall the collection and you pay them directly. If they can't? Then paying original creditor won't dissolve the collection, you would have to deal with collection agency if you so choose. The act of "paying" itself won't change the length of time collections can be on your report, which is 7 1/2 years from Date Of Delinquency.

Unless you in the State of New York, they have some different regulations regarding paid collections.
