If I go over my credit limit on a credit card, how badly would it affect my credit score?

It's going to put a negative remark on your report that will last for 7 years, which will impact your credit score.  Negatives are the things we really want to avoid.

You will have maxxed out your usage on the card, which is a negative on the score.  Usage is one thing you want to keep below 20% to show good points on your credit score.

Then there is the issue of the "over limit" fee that you will have to pay on the account.

So, does it make sense to go over the credit limit on your card, even once?
