In writting.

if the account was turned over for collection then you have to deal with them.

If you are in a postition to pay them off contact them by mail (find the mailing address on your credit report) if the amopunts are large and very old they may take an "Offer and Comprimise where they will settle for less than the original amount.. if its large ask for a payment plan. 

If the accounts are near 7 years old they may drop off if you DO NOT contact. them. Check it out before you contact them.
