It is not uncommon for them to sell the debt to another company and they will show the open date as of the date they acquired the note, which is legal.  However, that does not change the date that it is scheduled to fall off your report, which is 7 & 1/2 years from the date it went delinquent.  If it continues to show up on your report after the 7 & 1/2 years, then write letters to the bureaus and collector(s) and tell them to remove the account because it is outdated.  Best of luck!
