You definitely want paid accounts showing on your credit reports, and they will remain on the reports for 7 years from date of last activity.  These are POSITIVE marks, and are good to have.

The things you DO NOT WANT are accounts shown as being in arrears, or in collections, or that you filed bankruptcy (this latter one will be a negative on your report for no less than 10 years).  Such reports are negatives  and hurt your credit rating.

You may want to keep the credit cards in a small safe at home and you'll have them to use when necessary.
