Rather than a hard inquiry, you can purchase your FICO score from www.myfico.com.  FICO is the only score that really counts.  All the others are just for educational and entertainment purposes.

The BIG Mystery.

Credit score vary from day to day and by credit reporting agencies (CRA's).

Its a complicated to explain completely but here's a quick tutorial. Each lender reports how much you owe and when you paid once a month to the CRA's. none of them on the same day of the month. The CRA's then give you a score on what's been reported. This score changes as the reports come in from the lenders. All the CRA's also "weight"  information differently, so your score can vary  Between the different CRA's even on the same day.  Some companies might only report to 1 or 2 of the CRA's and not all of them.

Each lender also has an "algerithim" or method that they use to score your credit when lending. Most of the big guys don't even use the score provided by the CRA's, they have their own way of giving you a score.

Credit Karma pulls info from Transunion but since it's a soft inquiry I tends to show older info and isn't completely accurate either. But it is close enough to see where you are in the ballpark.

To get an accurate score you would have to do a hard inquiry. That's where CRA's make their money. It costs to get that info from them. Check out the websites for the big 3. They will gladly take your money for the info.

Oh, I almost forgot.  If you are lucky enough to have a Discover IT card, they give you your FICO score on your statement.  The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is pushing all credit card issuers to start doing this, which would be fantastic for us consumers!
