First, make sure it's YOURS!!

Since there are errors on at least 25% of credit reports, go to freeannualreport.com and get copies of all three credit reports.  Look them mover thoroughly and file a dispute on each erroneous item showing with the credit bureau repeorting same.  Errors would be accounts that you know or strongly suspect are not yours.  The credit bureau has to investigate and either verify or delete the entry.  This can take about 90 days.

Do not dispute any account you know is yours but has negative information such as late payments.  Those cannot be removed and must stay for up to 7 years.

Make your payments on time every month.  Try to not carry over a balance on credit cards, but pay the total amount due every month, or at least pay them in full as quickly as possible to avoid being charged much interest.  Keep your credit card utilization below 20% for the best score every month.  Utilize the tool on this site to see what different actions may do to your credit score.  This site lets you see what may happen without the risk of finding out only after the fact that a decision was wrong.

Wish you swift improvement in your credit.
