There are often errors on credit reports, so you don't want to pay for those errors.  Instead, you want all creditors to send information on the debts including copies of signed contracts so that you can distribute the assets.  There should be some information on your responsibilities and duties at the courthouse, the law library or through an attorney.  As executor, I believe you have to make a report of the asset distributioin to the court, so you want to make sure everything is done correctly.
