best to get credit cards from different companies?
I have a debit card with the bank with a Mastercard emblem on it. I am going to apply for a credit card. Does it matter if the new credit card is also a Mastercard from the same bank, or is it better for credit-building if it comes from a full out credit card company and is a Visa - to have two separate types of credit cards: Visa and Mastercard versus two Mastercards?

It will not matter if you have two Mastercards or a Mastercard and a Visa.   You can have 4 Visa's or 1 each of the major (Visa, MC, Amex, Disc) as long as they are different accounts.   It is the account that makes the difference, not the logo on the card itself.
