The decision on loosing your van will depend upon your state law and the bankruptcy attorney.   You will need to come up with the money for the attorney, not many work for free and they will want to ensure that they get paid for their services.    Check with family/friends to see if any have filed bankruptcy to see what recommendations they have.   Check your local Better Business Bureau as well.   Many will meet with you and provide your first consultation for free.
