Update on My Credit Rebuilding Journey
Helpful to 1997 out of 2077 people

Cap One took a chance on me in May 2015 when they sent me a pre-approval letter. My credit scores were mid 500s across the board.   I had two medical collections, three state liens (paid and released) two judgments, 4 charged off accounts.

I applied and was given a $300 limit.  A day later, I received another pre-approval offer.  I applied and was given another $300 limit.  Three months later I requested a CLI and was bumped to $800 on both cards.  I also asked when my cards would be eligible for upgrades.  To my surprise, they were both upgraded to QuicksilveOne.  My credit steps increases' kicked in around November and December.  I was bumped to $1,300.

Since then I've been approved for Discover IT, Chase Slate (now upgraded to Chase Freedom Unlimited), Chase Freedom, First National Bank of Omaha and a few others. My total credit lines are a little over $11000.  Not a lot but I'm getting there.  I try to keep my utilization below 19%.  My FICO score is 670.

I can't stress this enough, the ore knowledgeable you are about credit and how it works, the better off you'll be.  I bougt a book called Credit Repair by Robin Leonard.  Between that book and the information I've gotten here I'm in a much better place.   Keep in mind, what works for one won't necessarily work for the other.  Don't get discouraged never give up.  I've gotten the two collections removed, the charged off accounts are gone and I'm working hard to get the public records removed as well.

I will be forever grateful and a loyal customer with CapOne.  I'm going to break 700 shortly and I plan to keep it there.  My goal in a year is be in a position to get approved for the Quicksilver and Venture.

Set your goals and stick with them.  Never give up!  Good luck to all.

Update on Credit Journey
Helpful to 38 out of 38 people

I was approved for two CapOne Platinum cards in May 2015 with $300 limits on both.  I was enrolled in the credit steps program and I would get a $200 increase on both cards in December.  August 2015, I contacted CapOne to see if I was eligible for an upgrade.  I was upgraded to the QS1 on both cards.  September 2015, I went on the CapOne website and requested a credit llimit increase.  I was bumped to $800 on both cards.  I logged into my account Monday and I had received a $500 increase on one of the cards.  My sixth statement will cut tomorrow on the other card. Not sure what I'll get but I'm excited either way.

My scores were around the high 500s when I applied and now they are hovering around 675.  My goal is to reach 720 by May 2016.  I've gotten about $60 in cash back already.

Anyone who has had credit issues don't think you can't dig yourself out of it.  You can.  The more you educate yourselves on the ABCs of credit the better your chances will be of repairing and/or establishing good credit.  Thanks CapOne and good luck to all!

CapOne gave me a second chance three years ago when my scores were in the 500s. Started out with two Plat cards with $300 limits on each. I paid on time every month and got regular increases the first year. Both cards have upgraded to Quicksilver and Venture with $4,200 & $5,800 limits. Kepp your utilization low; pay on time; and ask for any offers to upgrade. Good luck.

Update on my Credit Journey
Helpful to 47 out of 48 people

My last update was April 2016.  Since then, my open lines of credit has increased from $11,000 to $85,000. My scores across the board are in the low 700s.  I'm keeping the utilization under 11%.  Cap1 gave me a chance back in May 2015 with $300 on two cards.  I will generally stop by and give updates because I want people who are like me trying to rebuild to know that 1. They are not alone; 2. The work will pay off; and 3. learn all you can about credit.

Keep your heads up and march towards those credit goals.

16 Month Update
Helpful to 67 out of 70 people

Cap1 gave me a chance by approving me for 2 Plat cards with $300 limits in May 2015 (I was enrolled in the credit steps program).  My credit scores were in the mid to high 500s. After the 3rd statement, I requested an upgrade to QS1 and a credit limit increase.  Got the QS1 and limits were increased to $800. Both cards were bumped to $1,300 after the 6th statement cut (credit steps increase).

At the year mark I was given $3800 limits on both cards.  Upgraded one of my cards to the Venture1. Today my credit scores are in the 700s and I have a total open credit line of $42,000.

Here are a few pointers that may help you on your journey. 1. Not all scores are created equal.  Just because your boyfriend got approved with a 600 credit score doesn't mean you will.  2.  Educate yourselves as much as you can about credit. 3.  Credit Karma gives approval recommendations based off other members with similar profiles.  Their recommendations are NOT guarantees and have nothing to do with the credit card issuer's requirements. Before applying go to the credit issuer's site and see if you can get prequalified.  It may save you a hard inquiry.  4.  If you are approved and get enrolled in the credit steps program know that your account is reported to the CBs.  There is no waiting period. Also, in credit steps you should get a credit limit increase by the 6th statement.  Don't be afraid to request a credit limit increase before then.  The 3rd statement mark is a good time to request.  If you're approved that increase has nothing to do with the credit steps increase.   5.  If you're interested in rewards, ask to upgrade to the Quicksilver1.  There is an annual fee of $39 but the rewards pay for itself.  6. 30% credit utilization will suffice but 10% and below is ideal.

Don't give up on yourself and your journey.  It takes time but if you will see your hard work pay off. Good luck to you all.

Another Update on My Credit Journey
Helpful to 23 out of 23 people

May 2015, I started out with a credit score in the high 500s.  CapOne gave me two Cap1 Plats with $300 credit limits on each card.  As of today, my Fico score is 711. Those two CapOne Plat cards have been upgraded to a Quicksilver1 and Venture1 with $3,800 limits on each.  I have the following credit cards:  Chase Freedom and Freedom Unlimited, two Bank of America cards, First Bank of Omaha, Sam's Mastercard and a Discover card. My utilization is less than 7%.  I can't begin to tell you how good it feels to have been able to go from a total credit limit of $600 to more than $35,000 in one year and a month.  I will be forever grateful and a loyal customer of CapOne.  If you think you can't ever rebuild your credit score I'm here to tell you, yes you can.  Don't ever give up.  Thanks CapOne and CK.

Update on My CapOne
Helpful to 18 out of 18 people

Got my two CapOne Platinums in May 2015. Limits on both cards were $300.  Upgraded to QS1 around August-September 2015.  Requested a CLI around the same time. Bumped to $800 on both cards.  Credit steps kicked in November and December 2015, respectively.  Bumped to $1,300 on both cards.  Requested a CLI last night on both cards and got the standard 2-3 days response on one and bumped to $3,800 on the other.  I'll request a CLI again after the 12th statement kicks in (probably why I got the 2-3 day response).  Started out with scores in the low 500s.  Scores on CK are 677 (TU) and 644 (EQ).  Fico score is 710.  Utilization is about 6%.  Thank you CapOne for giving me a second chance.

It Did What I Needed It To Do
Helpful to 27 out of 28 people

I got a pre-approval letter for this card June2015. I actually READ the fine print. I knew exactly what I was getting myself into.  I was approved for a $700 limit.  I paid the fees in full.  Signed up for the experian deal they had and that was the only running balance I carried.  I now have two CapOne Quick Silver One cards, Discover, Chase Slate, Chase Freedom and First National Bank of Omaha.  My total credit line is a little of $10K.  This card has helped raise my credit score.  Since it's done what I needed (get my foot in the credit door) its time to move on.  I will be closing this card in May.  Thanks First Premier.

Approved

I recieved a pre-approved offer in the mail for Chase Slate and Chase Freedom.  I was shocked becuase I had applied for the Slate in January and was denied.  I took a chance and applied.  Peeping through my fingers, I saw "You're Approved!"  Couldn't believe it.  According to CK my TU is 613 and my EQ is 608 (although my fico score is 670).  I was apporoved within 15 seconds (seemed a longer) for $1,200.  Not a lot but I'm back on the road to recovery.

I have 2 medical collections that are 6 years old. 2 judgments from 6 years ago and 3 tax liens (paid) from 5 years ago.

May 2015, I started out with a total of $600 credit line (two Cap1 cards).  Now I have close to a total $15,000 credit line and my utlization is around 7-8%.The better educated you are about credit the more you're able to respect it.  Don't give up and it's never too late to rebuild.

P.S. I was approved for the Chase Freedom $1,500.  Good Luck To All!

I received a pre-approved offer from AmEx for this card.  I applied online and was instantly approved for $1,400.  My fico score was in the 710 range.  I haven't really had the opportunity to take advantge of the Plenti rewards but I will.  I mainly applied for this card because I wanted to be a member of the AmEx family.  AmEx has a history of giving really good credit limit increases.  I am counting down to 61 days so I can apply for a 3X CLI with a soft pull.  Keeping my fingers crossed.
