Decent credit card

After a few banking acquisitions I've wound up with two Chase Freedom MasterCard cards.
These are a nice No-Fee credit card, the 1% cash back on everything is a nice feature, and the 5% bonus categories are occasionally a good opportunity to get some money back as well.

  • The interest rates are on the high side.

If you use your cards the way I do (paying the balance in full every month) it's not an issue.

  • Beware the minimum interest charge

If you do like I do and pay your bill in two chunks online to match up with your paychecks and you have even $0.01 left Chase will charge a $1.50 "minimum interest" fee. It seems like everyone does this now.

  • The "Payment Protector" plan is a bit of a scam.

They will charge the payment protector fee based on your statement balance, with zero grace period.

If you have two of these cards keeping Payment Protector on the one you don't use (as an emergency option) is probably a good idea, but make sure your statement balance is always ZERO to avoid being charged.

Approved after reconsideration

Applied online and received the delayed message.  TU FICO 655.  Called reconsideration line.  Representative put me on hold and then came back and asked questions pertaining to my accounts on my credit report. I answered all questions.  Representative put me back on hold again and asked more questions.  Afterwards, I was approved for $500.  I have since learned through my credit monitoring service that I was put on hold while the representative pulled my Equifax and Experian credit reports to verify information listed on Transunion which was the first report pulled.  Called Chase and they denied pulling Experian; however, they are are showing on my Experian report as an inquiry.  I am disputing the inquiry since Chase is stating that they did not pull Experian.  We'll see what happens with the dispute.

Not too shabby Helpful to 3 out of 3 people

While I did not get a good limit and it took a recon, I didn't mind too much.  The service is usually very good from the reps, but occasionally there is one that should consider a new job.  While I would like to give them 5 stars there was a little issue with customer service that does show that there is a bit or room for improvement and it isn't the best card available, but it is darn good.  The website is very nice and really easy to use.  I imagine you can do anything with the web without really needing much human interaction, which I like very much.

This and my Discover are my two favorite cards.  (Except Merrick, but only because they were my first card during rebuilding!)  The rewards are pretty decent, but it is more of the fact that this card is more recognized as a Prime card and that makes me feel good to at least be in.

I am really happy to hear that I got approved for $6000. My CK score is 706, and my Experian score is 727. The initial 0% introductory interest rate for 15months is also great. I am going to use it mainly, and will get $100 money back as well. That is awesome feature of the card.
