Credit Karma Gives Consumers Industry First: Free Credit Scores & Reports from Two Major Credit Bureaus

Equifax addition provides consumers access to more of their credit data

Credit Karma, a financial technology platform empowering more than 30 million consumers, today announced it has initiated its phased rollout of newly added Equifax credit scores and reports. It is the first organization to offer weekly updated, free credit scores and reports on an ongoing and on-demand basis, from two national credit reporting bureaus. This addition advances Credit Karma’s value proposition and long-term vision of re-engineering and simplifying consumer finance by empowering consumers with more credit comprehension and awareness.

“Historically, getting your credit scores or reports from more than one bureau for free on more than an annual basis can be complicated, yet access to this information is critical for consumers,” said Ken Lin, CEO and founder of Credit Karma. “We were excited to be the first company to launch weekly free credit scores seven years ago, and being the first to provide consumers with free access to their credit reports and scores – when they want, for however long they want, and having it come from two of the major credit bureaus – seriously advances our mission of helping consumers understand their financial health.”

“Financial education and transparency with credit reports and scores are critical to empowering consumers as they make important financial choices,” said Laurie Kolb, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Alliances, Equifax. “We are enthused that Credit Karma will be leveraging our robust data to further enable consumers’ financial awareness and well-being.”

These additions further Credit Karma’s mission to bring transparency and accessibility to consumer finance. A recent Consumer Reports survey found that only 53 percent of respondents have ever received their credit reports from one or more of the three major credit bureaus.

With Credit Karma’s dual-bureau solution, free access and weekly updates, as well as user-friendly layouts, comprehensive tools and resources to provide education and context, consumers will not only have access to more of their credit data in one place, but will also have access to tools to help them better understand it.
