It's hard to say without knowing much about your credit or credit history and I'm no expert by any means. If you can't get a credit card, maybe getting a store credit card at a local retailer would be a good START. You won't be able to use it outside of that store, but It will help build your credit. Your cellphone, rent, utility bills and student loans, if any, help build credit also but you have to pay those on time. If you can't pay your bills on time, then I think you need to reassess your income vs your expenses. Just like a business you need to Cashflow each month which means make more than your expenses.  See what expenses are "Necessities" and not just wants. Trim the excess. You might have to give up Starbucks each morning. It depends. In general, it is always a good idea to save 15% of each paycheck and put into savings.  If you think you can't afford that. You can't afford not to do it.  Doing so will give you a cushion of cash should your car need unexpected repairs and other emergencies that occur in life. Direct Deposit wouldn't necessarily help your problems. If you're missing the due date quite often, ask the lender if you can move the due date. It never hurts to ask and you can avoid late fees. In addition to using creditkarma.com I use Mint.com to track my monthly expenses and budget each month. If you don't have a budget, now is a good time to create one and stick to it.
