It would be better to try finding another job, cutting back on your expenses or working with creditors to lower your bills before filing for bankruptcy.

You have to take into consideration that BK is protection for those who need it. It protects you from creditors, garnishments, loss of property, etc due to unforseen financial distress. CH7 will stay on your credit file for 10 years and CH13 will remain for 7 - throughout that time you will have to work hard to re-establish credit and a history, all while either being turned down for new credit or being offered less than desirable interest rates / terms. If your situation has become desperate and you need relief to save what little you got left, then no one would blame you for filing BK. If your situation is a matter of falling behind and overspending then I agree with Dawnstream, tighten your belt, work with creditors and repay what you owe.
