It seems like getting a real credit report from one of the big 3,( Transunion, Equifax, and Experion) will show who's been looking at your credit. It's always a good idea to get a copy of one from each company every year (although I still haven't done that regularly myself!). Someone recommended getting one in January from Transunion, then in April get one from Equifax, and then in August get one from Experion, that way you just keep getting information every 4 months, instead of just once a year. If something looks questionable, then you can get the others at the same time and get it figured out. (stolen identity applying for cards in your name perhaps).

Hi Glenn,  You need to check your credit report (see your credit file) for that information. I’d recommend to check your credit file every time you are making a financial decision, so you know where you are standing.
Luckily federal regulations and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) mandates the credit bureaus to disclose a copy of your credit file to you every 12 months at no cost to you. To get your annual free report you can either write to each credit bureau by mail and ask them for it or you can use the joint website they set up at https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp to request one or all three credit reports. Use it wisely as you can only do it once a year, for free of course.

You can also call FTC at 1-877-322-822 or write to them at Credit Report Request Service, P.O. Box 105281, Atlanta, GA 30348-5281

For more info see the Federal Trade Commission’s info on annual free reports: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/freereports/index.shtml

I have had an average of 5 Hard Inquiries per month from unknown sources. How can I find out who is checking and/or stop them. This one item has pulled my credit score down to an unacceptable level.
