I recently tried to apply for a small short term loan only to find out that a collection has been placed on my credit report for a 2008 debt which is not mine. I thought that this had been resolved in 2008 since I never heard from the agency again. It's an old at&t Uverse acct. which account no. at&t cannot even find. I have already received a free credit report this year. How do I dispute this?

Annualcreditreport.com gives three free credit reports. If you used all three, one from each bureau then check the three credit bureau sites for specials. Sometimes it may cost you $5 to $10 and then you can dispute online, by phone or mail. Then cancel when your done. Good Luck.

You should be able to get a free copy of the credit report that company used since they denied you a loan. That is required by federal law... that you be given a free copy of the report used to deny you credit. If you do this on-line you should also be able to dispute the charge at the same time!
