i owe a certain credit collecter about 1300 dollars +/-. anyways they told me that i have broken too many promises and that they are now going to take me to court. I told them i was going to file bankruptcy (which i have not) and the letters and the phone calls stopped coming... What do i do from here? Do i continue making my 50 dollar payments? or do i just forget about it and hope that the creditors do not sue me?

Yes. They can get a judgement stating that you owe the debt. They can then use this to place a lien on your personal property. The worst case scenario is that they will petition for and win the right to garnish your wages.

Sorry. Should have read the entire question. If you're not truly planning on filing for bankruptcy, then try to negotiate a monthly payment you can afford. Another option may be to try to borrow about $500 from a friend or family member and see if the creditor will settle the debt. If they accept, you could pay that person or relative off in 10 months at $50 a month.

Not all states allow them to garnish your wages.

Sksccm... do you think they would settle for 500 dollars?? The debts are between 3 or 4 different companies... one is an energy company and one is for the hospital ER... the one for the energy company is for 850.00...
