Isn't this the same countrywide who was one of the first mortgage companies to go under because they wrote so many terrible home loans?

Countrywide did not go bankrupt. They are being sold to Bank of America although the sale is still pending. It's FDIC insured so as long as your account is less than $100K you are covered regardless.

Country is still risky.

Regardless of Countrywide's ratings or financial position, as long as your balance is $100k or less your money is as safe as treasuries.

All the comments are meaningless. Your account is insured by FDIC for up to 100k.

Their homepage shows 3.8% for $10k and above.
So it appears we get a special rate.
Does anyone know for sure ?

If Countrywide goes under, you'll have your money in 24 hours if under the $100K.
I am pretty sure the 4.05% isn't the present rate, instead it is 3.8%. But that is still leading almost all other banks.
Countrywide tranfers to and from your external accounts are blazingly fast, happening usually the next business day.

Just ckicked on it to take the offer and the lower rate showed up.
Still not a bad liquid account but I was hoping CK customers would get a bonus rate.
Oh well.
Id most certainly stay below $100k on countrywide or indymac or any of the banks that are having well documented problems.
Even interest over $100k is not covered.
