Consolidation wouldn't be as damaging on your credit. You can consult with a bankruptcy attorney for advice. Every situation is different, I don't know if you actually need bankruptcy or not, a lawyer may be able to advise you.

Bankruptcy will NOT help your credit, but will hurt it for 10 years.  It should only be considered as the ultimate last resort. A competent bankruptcy attorney will give you a free initial consultation and may provide constructive advice to help you avoid bankruptcy.  If you can possibly consolidate the debts, do so.
