First, pull your FICO scores and try to do it from a site that also provides different versions of FICO and look for the mortgage version, so then you have a better idea as to what your scores are. If there are any ways that you can increase your score before apply, then you would want to do that. You also want to save up a good sized down payment. Spend plenty of time reading reviews of different mortgage lenders to try to find the right one for you.
