Will paying off a collection debt be reported to the credit bureaus?
I'm reading a lot online that collection agencies are not reporting when a debt has been paid off in full. Are they supposed to? How can we get them to?

In my experience

If they are reporting the collection then they will report it when paid.  Realize that reporting is not instantanious. It can take up to 60 days in some cases. That may be what is happening in the reading you've done.  But as a general rule they will report it.

If the pay off has not reported within 30 days you can force the issue by writing a "Validation Letter" to one of the credit bureaus that the account reports to. That will force the collection agency to verfy the account status. But as I said, it will generally show as paid.

Good Luck
