Generally you have to have an income to get a credit card. If you are not currently working, then you may have trouble, but not with all lenders as some let you put down income available to you, meaning that you live on someone else's income. There are some credit cards specifically for students. All in all, you need to show them that you are able to make payments. I suppose on a credit app, if you are not employed and have no verifiable income, you would check the "other income" box and add an amount in there, if you get denied for that reason, call them and ask for reconsideration and explain to them that you get xx amount of dollars each month from someone to live on.
