will closing an old credit card account affect credit rating
I'm considering changing credit cards with the same issuer because the card I have now has an annual fee.

It probably would here with Vantage as it doesn't calculate closed accounts into "average age of accounts", but it won't hurt you with FICO (the important scores) as it factors closed accounts into "average age of accounts". You might ask your credit card company to remove the annual fee, they may do it. And that may be the route to take if that is the only reason you were to do this, but if you want the other card for other reasons, then go for it. See what the lender says when you contact them.
