Paying off an account does not remove it from your credit reports. Accounts either negative or positive remain on your reports for a certain amount of time depending on the status. If you find incorrect info on your credit reports then you need to dispute the incorrect info with the credit bureau(s) that show it. Transunion, Equifax and Experian all have websites with instructions on how to dispute incorrect information found on your reports.

They won't be vanishing instantly.  When you pay a debt, it will still be reported as part of your credit history for the next 7 years but the report will say when it was paid.
