Why does Transunion show us one score but report something different to lenders?
I waited until my Transunion score was at a level that a lender said would be acceptable. Then I applied for credit and the lender informs me that the score they received from the same bureau (Transunion) is substantially lower (approx. 100 points) and that the score appearing on Credit Karma is not reliable since Transunion gives lenders a "lenders score" which is totally different. If that is the case, how can we convert the Transunion scores shown to us on this site into what they will be reporting to the lenders as their score for us so that we don't believe we have actually achieved a level that will be satisfactory to a lender and then find out that is not true and are hit with a hard inquiry on our reports?

The scores on Credit Karma are calculated by the Vantage 3 method and are for use with the financial tools provided here to help people learn about credit.  That is the total focus of this site. Any time you apply for a credit card or bank loan, the potential lender uses a different matrix for their calculations, each credit bureau has their way and some lenders use FICO which is a whole different way, but all are correct.  The scores here are also based on information from only two credit bureaus but there are three bureaus out there and the information from the third (Experian, which CK does not have access to) could make a difference in approval or denial.  Using the financial planning tools here after reading the articles on this site helped me to do a balance transfer and to later qualify for a low interest auto loan for a new car, something that was not possible ten years ago.  And I am on a fixed income.  The learning her is better than a college education since credit is an integral part of today's society.
