Why does the report state that I am at high balances on my cards when most now have zero balance
My score should be much higher since I paid over $16,000 on credit card balances

First, GREAT JOB!!! That's a fantastic accomplishment, you should be proud of yourself :)

Now, Credit Karma updates on a weekly basis. The credit bureaus update on a monthly basis (maybe longer, not sure), and the lenders you paid off update on their own schedules. So it takes several months for things to be reconciled and for your score to regulate. But with that kind of payoff you should see a really good improvement soon. And you'll see an even bigger improvement if you keep using your credit wisely, paying on time every month and carrying low balances.
