Why do inquires that are done on the same day for the same loan count multiple times

Actually they don't. It sounds like there was some rate shopping going on, perhaps for an auto loan? Each inquiry will show up on the report, but when calculating your score they are counted as a single inquiry. In addition, if someone is looking at the content of the report to see why there are so many inquiries, they will see what is going on. Anybody who would be looking will understand the concept of rate shopping and not hold it against you. Nothing to worry about.
