Most negative information will remain on your credit reports for 7 years, most positive information will remain on your reports for 10+ years. Paying off or closing an account does not remove it from your credit reports. Whatever you do, NEVER try to remove old accounts that were closed in good standing, because it would damage your credit profile and scores.
