The first thing you will need is an attorney who specializes in brankruptcy.   Talk to friends and relatives who have filed in the past for recommendations. Or consult your local legal aid society for recommendations.   Then, gather up every single statement, bill that you have and go speak with the attorney to begin the process.

You can also look in the phone book under attorneys. Find one specializing in bankruptcy and also offering a free initial consultation, then listen to what you are told.  Be aware that some debts cannot be discharged in bankruptcy and a bankruptcy can damage your credit for up to ten years.
