when a spouse dies how do I close unneeded accounts without reducing my credit score?
My wife had cards at stores I do not patronize and in her name. Should I close them or just let them go inactive?

First of all my condolences on the loss of your wife.  Were you a signer on the credit cards? Are they under your social security number?  If so, make sure you have all the credit cards you want before closing any since your credit will take a ding. Don't close them all at once. Close them over a period of months or a year, depending how many there are.
