You consult with a bankruptcy attorney (look in the Yellow Pages) who offers free consultation on the first visit and you listen to that attorney, who may have non-bankruptcy ideas that will be better.  Remember that a bankruptcy will trash your credit for 10 years, so the next car you want to buy just may need a co-signer or you'll need to pay cash. 

Better to see about refinancing.  And never buy a brand new car!!! One that is one to two years old costs less and will last a good 8-10 years.
