Talk with a competent bankruptcy attorney because bankruptcy is a legal action with a lot of technicalities that need to be considered.  I can tell you truthfully, too many people do bankruptcy just because of "unsecured" debts like credit cards and that is stupid!!  I did mine years ago to hang onto my car since there was no mass transit in the area where I lived.  You can't get rid of student loans, alimony, child support, or tax liens in bankruptcy.

And it is NOT a 'new beginning' unless you like rebuilding your credit from nothing again.

Most bankruptcy attornies offer a free initial consultation.  Listen to them because they may have ideas that will help you avoid bankruptcy and get your financial picture in line.
