What do i do about my auto loan even though i no longer have the car?
the car lot reposed the vehicle and sold it in a private auction.

That account will stay on your credit report for 7 & 1/2 years from date you went delinquent.  When they sold the car at auction, if they received less than the amount you owed them, they can claim that there is still a balance due.  If they were paid in full (or more),  then they must state it is a zero balance due.  You can always write to them and ask for information about the sale & reposession of the auto, you'll need make, model & VIN number.  With any luck, they may decide to delete the account rather than try and track down all the paperwork.  Best of luck!
